Different Types of Eyelash Extensions

A few years ago, mascara was the go-to makeup product for almost all women not blessed with thick eyelashes. However, most will agree that applying it daily is no easy task. That's where eyelash extensions come in. Eyelash extensions have grown in popularity in recent years, and for a good reason. They provide a more convenient and long-lasting solution for improving the appearance of your natural lashes. But did you know there are various kinds of eyelash extensions?

Our experienced instructors will explore the various types of eyelash extensions and their benefits in this guide.

Classic Eyelash Extensions

As the name suggests, classic eyelash extensions are the most traditional type. They have been around for some time and are probably the most popular extensions. Classic eyelash extensions involve applying a single extension to each natural lash. Lash artists use a technique known as 1:1 lash application to apply this kind of extension. In most cases, classic eyelash extensions are made of synthetic materials like silk or faux mink. They also come in different curls, thicknesses, and lengths.

These extensions are ideal for you if you want to achieve a natural yet noticeable appearance. They will enhance your natural lashes' length, curl, and thickness without looking too unnatural. Moreover, classic lashes are highly versatile and can be tailored to suit different eye sizes and shapes. Depending on your preferences, you can ask the lash technician to create a natural-looking, subtle look or a dramatic and glamorous effect. One of the significant benefits of classic eyelash extensions is that they require minimal maintenance.

With proper care, you can expect your classic eyelash extensions to last up to four weeks. The good news is that your lashes will not need any touch-ups or infills during those four weeks. However, follow adequate aftercare instructions to ensure your lashes last as long as possible.

Another benefit of these eyelash extensions is that they suit all eye shapes and sizes. Your lash artist can customize the extension to blend seamlessly with their natural lashes, eye shape, and desired effects. Besides, classic lashes are lightweight and comfortable to wear.

Regarding aftercare, protecting your lashes from moisture for the first 24 hours after application is vital. Doing so will give the adhesive adequate time to dry and set properly. Also, avoid oil-based products since they can break down the glue.

Volume Eyelash Extensions

Volume eyelash extensions, also known as 2D-6D lashes, are newer extensions. However, they have gained massive popularity in recent years. When applying these lashes, the lash technician will apply two to six lightweight extensions to a single natural lash. This will create a more voluminous and fuller appearance. Lash technicians use finer and lighter extensions than those used for classic lashes. The application process starts by arranging the lashes in a fan shape before being applied to each natural lash.

Volume eyelash extensions are ideal for achieving a fuller and more fluffy appearance. They can also help you achieve a dramatic look. Another significant advantage of volume eyelash extensions is that they can help you create a more defined look for special events or occasions. You won't need mascara or false lashes once you apply volume eyelash extensions.

The application process for volume lashes takes longer than for classic lashes. Typically, the procedure lasts anywhere from one hour, depending on the number of extensions applied. Moreover, the process requires the expertise and skills of an experienced lash artist. Like classic eyelash extensions, volume lash extensions also need maintenance to keep them looking their best. So, avoid pulling or rubbing on your lashes.

Moreover, stay away from oil-based products or makeup removers. Don't forget to keep your lashes away from moisture for at least 24 hours after the application process. With approximate care, your volume eyelash extensions may serve you up to six weeks before they need to be replaced or touched up.

It is essential to note that volume eyelash extensions are not ideal for everyone. So, consult a licensed and experienced lash technician before scheduling an appointment. Also, volume eyelash extensions may be more expensive than classic lashes.

Hybrid Eyelash Extensions

These extensions are a combination of classic and volume lashes and are perfect for you if you want to enjoy the best of both worlds. These lash extensions have also become increasingly popular for those who want to achieve a more layered and voluminous look than classic lashes but not as dramatic as volume lashes.

In terms of the application process, hybrid lashes involve combining a classic and volume extension to a single natural lash. This creates a more textured and natural-looking appearance. Typically, the extensions used in hybrid extensions are made from synthetic materials like mink and silk. They are also available in different curls, thicknesses, and lengths.

During the application process, the lash technician will create handmade fans using two to six individual lashes. After that, the technician will attach the fans to each natural lash using a special adhesive. The most significant advantage of hybrid lashes is their versatility. They blend in seamlessly with almost all eye shapes and sizes. Also, they can be customized to create different levels of texture and fullness. Moreover, these lashes will open your eyes and make them appear more youthful.

Like classic and volume lashes, you must take proper care of hybrid extensions to keep them looking their best. With proper care, your hybrid eyelash extensions will last up to 6 weeks before they need to be touched up or replaced.
